New Jersey Currency Collection

Description

Throughout history wars have caused excessive government expenditures and resulting inflation. The first paper money issued in America was by the Colony of Massachusetts to pay its troops returning from an expedition against the French in Canada. Similarly, most issues of New Jersey colonial paper money were related to expeditions against Canada, against the Indians, or were connected with the Revolutionary War.

Stevens Institute of Technology has a large collection of colonial paper currency. Most of the collection comes from the min of 1780.
